Acne vulgaris is a common chronic dermatologic condition. Causes are multifactorial and include genetics, hormonal factors, bacterial colonization (Cutibacterium acne), follicular hyperkeratosis, foods, and medications. The presentation differs and there are different types/severity of acne. Lesions may include closed comedones (whiteheads), open comedones (blackheads), cysts, papules, pustules, and nodules. Treatment depends on the severity but may include topical benzoyl peroxide, topical retinoids, topical or oral antibiotics, OCPs, and oral isotretinoin.
