A. Corticosteroid cream
B. Albendazole
C. Clotrimazole
D. Doxycycline
E. Ivermectin

Answer and topic summary

The answer is B. Albendazole

Enterobiasis is the most common helminthic infection in the U.S. The Enterobius vermicularis (aka pinworm) is a nematode that is transmitted via the fecal-oral route. The classic clinical feature is anal pruritus (usually at night). The best diagnostic test is the “tape test” which is the microscopic identification of the pinworms (or ova) on tape that has been previously pressed over the perianal area. Treatment options are bendazoles (e.g., albendazole or mebendazole) OR pyrantel pamoate. The entire household should be treated as well.
