Intracranial Neoplasms: The Daily PANCE Blueprint

Which of the following is the most common benign intracranial tumor?

A. Schwannomas
B. Meningiomas
C. Gangliocytomas
D. Pituitary adenomas
E. Chordomas

Answer and topic summary

The answer is B. Meningiomas

Meningiomas are the most common benign intracranial tumor. They are usually slow-growing tumors and are an incidental finding on imaging. They arise from the arachnoid cap cells of the arachnoid villi. Clinical features depend on the patient and size/location of the tumor but may include headache, visual defects, seizures, hearing loss, etc. MRI brain is the imaging modality of choice and will show a round, sharply demarcated space-occupying lesion. 1st line treatment is surgical resection in the majority of cases.
