Uterine leiomyomas (aka fibroids) are benign uterine neoplasms; they are the most common tumor of the female genital tract. They can be classified as subserosal (MC location), intramural, or submucosal. Predisposing factors include nulliparity, early menarche, and age (25-45 years old). Clinical features include menorrhagia, pelvic pain, infertility, enlarged, firm, and irregular uterus, and dyspareunia. Diagnosis is made with ultrasound (best initial test). Treatment depends on symptoms and differs by patient case but can include OCPs, GnRH agonists, NSAIDs, myomectomy, or even hysterectomy with/without bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.
