Answer and topic summary
The answer is E. Preterm birth
Multiple pregnancy is defined as a pregnancy with 2 or more fetuses. Specifically in regard to twin pregnancies, there are 2 different types – monozygotic (one fertilized oocyte that divides into 2 embryonic layers) versus dizygotic (two fertilized oocytes with two spermatozoa). Predisposing factors include a family history of dizygotic twins, reproductive technology, previous multiple pregnancy, and age > 35. In general pregnancies with 2 or more fetuses are high-risk. The most common complication is preterm labor/birth (MC).
