B. 60 years and older
C. 65 years and older
D. 45 years and older
E. 70 years and older

Answer and topic summary

The answer is C. 65 years and older

Osteoporosis is a condition defined by low bone mass, leading to an increased risk for fractures and decreased bone strength. A clinical diagnosis of osteoporosis can be made if the patient has (1) a fragility fracture (particularly at the spine, hip, wrist, humerus, rib, and pelvis) OR (2) a T-score ≤-2.5 standard deviations at any site based upon BMD measurement by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. USPSTF recommends screening for osteoporosis with bone measurement testing to prevent osteoporotic fractures in females 65 years and older PLUS postmenopausal women < 65 years of age with certain risk factors (i.e., previous fracture, steroid therapy, LBW, current tobacco abuse, excessive alcohol intake, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.).
