Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most common cause of infertility in women and is defined by hyperandrogenism and ovulatory dysfunction. It may be difficult to diagnose because there is a wide range of manifestations, such as hirsutism, acne, obesity, diabetes, menstrual irregularities, voice depending, dyslipidemia, depressive symptoms, etc. The Rotterdam criteria is the preferred criteria to use for the diagnosis. Initial treatment includes diet and exercise for weight reduction. Combined estrogen-progestin oral contraceptives are the mainstay of therapy.
