Answer and topic summary
The answer is E. Personal history of depression
Peripartum depression is a type of major depressive disorder that happens during pregnancy or within 1 month after delivery. All females could be screened for peripartum depression at least once during the peripartum period. There are multiple risk factors for peripartum depression, including anxiety, physical or sexual abuse, unplanned pregnancy, traumatic birth, adolescent pregnancy, lack of financial/social support, and low socioeconomic status. The strongest risk factor is a personal history of depression. Treatment includes psychotherapy and SSRIs. Paroxetine should be avoided during pregnancy. Also, while most other SSRIs are safe, infants and mothers need to be watched for signs of toxicity.
