Hypogonadism is a condition defined by impaired gonadal function. There are two main types: primary (insufficient sex steroid production in gonads) and secondary (issues with HP axis or insufficient GnRH). Examples of primary hypogonadism include Turner syndrome, Klinefelter’s, varicocele, infection (TB or mumps), and autoimmune damage to gonads. Examples of secondary hypogonadism include brain tumors, drugs, hyperprolactinemia, Kallmann syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome etc. Clinical features in males may include testicular hypoplasia, high-pitched voice, infertility, and absent facial hair. Management includes treating underlying causes +/- hormone replacement therapy.
