Measles (rubeola) is a very infectious disease caused by a virus. It has 2 stages usually – the prodromal stage and then an exanthem stage. Clinical features include conjunctivitis, coryza, cough, Koplik spots, high fevers, malaise, and a rash. The measles rash characteristically is a maculopapular rash that originates behind the ears and spreads to the rest of the body. Infection is usually self-limiting and symptomatic treatment should be offered if needed. Vitamin A supplementation has been shown to reduce morbidity and mortality.
