Does This Method Work? Check Out My Results!

Absolutely! Using the Smarty PANCE PANRE-LA Blueprint and strategic test-taking methods, I passed my PANRE-LA with a score of 1384—well above the reference group mean and cut score of 1150.

These results weren’t by chance. I followed a repeatable system that made each question easier to solve. Let me show you exactly how you can apply the same process to your PANRE-LA!

Step 1: Optimize Your Setup for Maximum Efficiency

✅ Use a Dual Monitor Setup (If Possible)

PANRE-LA Dual Monitor Setup Smarty PANCE

Success starts with your setup. The PANRE-LA is an open-book test, and speed matters—so setting up your environment for seamless searching can be a game-changer.

One of the best ways to streamline your PANRE-LA experience is to use two monitors: considering this exam can last up to three years, I suggest everyone invest in an inexpensive second monitor. If you don't have one already, here is one I highly recommend.

  • Screen 1: Open the PANRE-LA exam
  • Screen 2: Opened up to the Smarty PANCE PANRE-LA Blueprint start screen

Having two monitors (either connected to a Mac/Windows desktop or a laptop connected to an external display) allows you to open the NCCPA PANRE-LA Exam on one display while having your search tools readily available on the other.

🚀 Pro Tip: If you don’t have two monitors, you can still use split-screen mode on one screen!

Step 2: Start Your Exam and Launch the Smarty PANCE PANRE-LA Blueprint

🚀 Pro Tip: If this is not your first quarter, take a moment to review any previously missed questions. You are almost 100% guaranteed to see a version of a missed question each quarter or two.

2️⃣ Screen two: Open up the Smarty PANCE PANRE-LA Blueprint and search page

Smarty PANCE PANRE Content Areas

💡 Why is this helpful?

The NCCPA only asks questions from the blueprint—this means you can narrow down your differential quickly by sticking to topics listed in the corresponding section. To see how this works read on.

Step 3: It's Time to Start Your Exam

1️⃣ Launch the PANRE-LA Exam

  • Click "Launch Exam" from the NCCPA website dashboard (above)
  • You’ll be redirected to NCCPA Exam Portal at https://regnewtestdriver.nccpa.net
  • Accept the acknowledgment agreement
  • The system will take you to your first question of the quarter or allow you to resume where you left off

🔥 Biggest Exam Hack: The content area on this page is your cheat code—use it! Before even reading the question, look at the system (e.g., Renal, Cardio, Pulmonary). This instantly tells you where to search in the Smarty PANCE Blueprint, cutting down guesswork and making your search ultra-efficient. #2 will show you exactly how to do it,

2️⃣ Navigate to the Smarty PANCE PANRE-LA Blueprint

  • Click on the content area that corresponds to your question.

📌 Review the blueprint topics in this section to ensure that you are sufficiently prepared to tackle questions within these topic areas. Pay attention to the performance expectation levels!

What to Do Next:

🔎 If you feel confident – Proceed to the question.

📌 If you need a quick refresher – Use the search function to find high-yield summaries.

If you're not ready to tackle this content area – Store the question for later review and move to the next one.

🚀 Pro Tip: The PANRE-LA only tests topics within the blueprint, so staying within this framework eliminates distractors and streamlines your approach!

👉 Now, let’s move to Step 4: Finding the Correct Answer Quickly.

Step 4: Beginning the Question and Finding the Correct Answer Quickly

You have 5 minutes per question—plenty of time if you use it wisely! Instead of randomly searching, follow this structured approach to find the answer efficiently.

Now that you’re in the question follow these proven test-taking strategies (outlined in our Test-Taking Masterclass).

1️⃣ Read the Lead-In First

Before diving into the full vignette, start by reading the lead-in question at the end. This tells you exactly what you’re looking for.

Example Lead-In:

Which of the following is the most likely causative agent of his condition?

🚀 Why? Knowing what the question is asking first helps you filter out distractions and focus on relevant clues as you read.

2️⃣ Read the First Sentence of the Clinical Vignette

The first sentence often contains key clinical clues that help you narrow your differential diagnosis early.

Example:

A 35-year-old man presents with complaints of fever, chills, and severe left flank pain for the past two days.

✅ This already suggests an infectious or inflammatory cause related to the renal system.

3️⃣ Identify the Breadcrumbs

As you read the full vignette, highlight the critical findings that guide your diagnosis.

Complete Vignette:

A 35-year-old man presents to the clinic with complaints of fever, chills, and severe left flank pain for the past two days. He describes the pain as constant and radiating towards the lower abdomen. Additionally, he reports nausea and a burning sensation during urination. His vital signs are as follows: temperature of 39.2°C (102.6°F), blood pressure of 125/80 mmHg, pulse of 110 bpm, and respiratory rate of 18 breaths per minute. Physical examination reveals significant tenderness at the left costovertebral angle. Urinalysis results indicate the presence of white blood cells and bacteria.

📌 Key Clues:

  • Fever, chills, and flank pain → Suggests an infectious etiology.
  • Burning urination → Points toward urinary tract involvement.
  • CVA tenderness → A hallmark sign of pyelonephritis.
  • WBCs and bacteria in urine → Confirms urinary infection.

4️⃣ Use the Smarty PANCE PANRE-LA Blueprint to Confirm Your Diagnosis

Go to the Renal System section of the Smarty PANCE PANRE-LA Blueprint and search for conditions that match these clinical findings.

Differential Diagnosis Based on Clues:

  • Acute Kidney Injury ❌ (No mention of kidney function impairment)
  • Chronic Kidney Disease ❌ (No chronic history or lab findings)
  • Electrolyte Abnormalities ❌ (No specific symptoms of electrolyte imbalance)
  • Pyelonephritis ✅ (Best match: Fever, chills, flank pain, CVA tenderness, WBCs in urine)
  • Renal Cell Carcinoma ❌ (Typically presents with painless hematuria)

🎯 Final Answer: Pyelonephritis.

🚀 Pro Tip: Even if you had no clue that this patient had pyelonephritis you can use one of the breadcrumbs from the question above and use the Smarty PANCE system specific PANRE-LA search tool and come up with your likely diagnosis.

5️⃣ Verify with the Smarty PANCE Lesson & PEARLS

Click Pyelonephritis in the Smarty PANCE PANRE-LA Blueprint and cross-check the diagnostic clues.

Patient Presentation Match:

  • Fever?
  • Chills?
  • Flank Pain?
  • Dysuria?
  • CVA Tenderness?
  • WBCs in Urine?

Now, click into the PEARLS section—this often directly states the most common causative organism.

Smarty PANCE PEARLS:

E. coli is the most common causative agent of pyelonephritis, responsible for 70-80% of cases.

6️⃣ Submit Your Answer with Confidence

Now that you’ve confirmed your diagnosis through both clinical reasoning and Smarty PANCE resources, go back to the exam screen and select:

Correct Answer: E. coli

Click Submit Answer and move forward! 🚀
